Interview with Kevin Keenrey co-founder of the FCFF.

This week I got probably one of the biggest names in the North West MMA community to answerer some questions over email. That's right I got to talk to with none other then Kevin Keeney co-founder of the FCFF. And here below is the Q&A I had with him. Enjoy fight fans!

1: how does it feel to see the FCFF going on it's 12th year? I thank my lucky stars. There have been many of shows that have come and gone through Oregon in our first 11 years and somehow, someway, we are still here today. It is truly amazing since Jim Cassidy and Scott Revis rule!

2: Out all the years you have been with the FCFF can you name a fighter who you have liked the most? Darin "86ed 4 LIFE" Shelstad

3: You had your first pro fight for the FCFF not to long ago. Will we be seeing more in the future? I will through as many pro fights as possible as long as the fighters are still willing to fight for $1 to show and $1 to win.

4: You have 6 title fights, 1 interim title fight, and 1 super fight for this upcoming fight night. Out of all those fights. Which one stands out? And why? Bryan Nuro vs. Sean Baker for the interim 155 title. Nuro is a machine . . . literally. Baker was untouchable for 18 months prior to getting injured. I'm anxious to see if we get the old Sean Baker back for this comeback fight because if he is not in top form, it will be a long night for him. Nuro has a gas tank that never gets close to empty and lion heart. Baker can win the fight but it had better be the best Sean Baker to enter the Slammer. I would buy a ticket for this show if this was a one bout fight card and this was the bout!

5: How does it feel to watch the sport of MMA evolve? Has it evolved? I'm not sure it has a whole lot in the past 11 years. I know we don't do a whole lot different . . . but we probably should. I think the sport has more exposure now thanks to Uncle Dana, the Fertitta's, and "The Truth" Chael Sonnen. (Oh by the way, Lorenzo Fertitta was in the bathroom with me at the SW Steakhouse the night of weigh-ins for Sonnen vs. Silva 2 and he failed to acknowledge me. I already accepted his apology.) The sport has grown but I wouldn't say it has evolved.

Thanks for reading fight fans! And special thanks to Kevin Keeney for taking his time to answer these question's. Go take look at this weeks Rumble at the Roseland 70 pre fight look!!

Rumble at the Roseland 70!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This saturday, March 9th the Fight Card is STACKED for Rumble at The Roseland 70. A record of eight FCFF belt fights will go down: six FCFF of them will be Title fights and the last two will be FCFF Superfights. The FCFF lightweight division is taking all the attention this saturday with three high profile belt fights. Down below is the looks into the fights.

The Rematch: Crowd favorites in the Flyweight division will rematch of the FCFF Title at Rumble at The Roseland 70. The current FCFF 125-pound Champion, Alex Corrales of Bend, Oregon will meet Brian Tsutsumi of Impact JJ in the cage for the third time. In their first meeting, Tsutsumi defeated Corrales via a split decision at Rumble at The Roseland 62. They met again at Rumble at The Roseland 65 on August 25th. This time Corrales came out blazing and landed a head kick knockout in only 17 seconds of round number one. This KO earned him the FCFF "Knockout of the Year" award. In Tsutsumi's last FCFF fight (since the head kick KO) he faced the mega-tough David Converse and won via a hard fought decision victory at Rumble at The Roseland 67. He is eager to get back in the cage against Corrales for the FCFF Flyweight Championship belt. "This fight is what the FCFF is all about. They've met twice, they've each won once. This rematch is for the belt, for reputation, for everything," said FCFF Co-owner Kevin Keeney. . My winner is Alex Corrales. I think he has the speed and will use it to his advantage and beat Brian.

205-Pound Female Title: Two women will face-off in the 205-pound weight class division in the fourth belt fight at Rumble at The Roseland 70. Hillary VanOrnum, a familiar face in the local MMA and Jiu-jitsu scene will face newbie, Myndi Stalnaker of Team Thunderdome at The Octagon. Stalnaker has undergone a personal transformation, losing 110 pounds so far. Stalnaker brings a family history in boxing to her mma training, which started at Alive MMA and is full-time with Jana Simms at "The Octagon MMA" where she also works. "Being in this industry has changed my life in so many ways, I would love to lead by example and to show them [her female teammates] that anything is possible," says Stalnaker. VanOrnum's debut into mma came at the FCFF's Rumble at The Roseland 59. There she beat Danae Castle via TKO in round number two. Her next FCFF fight was at Rumble at The Roseland 65 in August of 2012. This fight went to decision against Leanne Foster and VanOrnum came out on top. VanOrnum has a brown belt in Judo and purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and was a former Division I basketball player. She's been training in mma for about five years. My winner will have to be Hilary VanOrnum.

The Comeback: Sean Baker returns to MMA competition after a one-year hiatus due to injury sustained from a cage malfunction in 2012. Previous to the injury, Baker blazed a trail in the MMA scene in 2011 earning the FCFF's 2011 “Rookie of the Year” award, after five consecutive wins in FCFF competition and a Championship belt from the “House of Chaos” production in October of 2011. On March 9th, Baker will return and face Byan Nuro of Impact JJ for the FCFF Lightweight Championship belt. Nuro, a combative sports coach and personal trainer has had three wins in FCFF competition. Recently, he got the decision victory over Billy Denney at Rumble at The Roseland 67 -and- the decision victory over Jason Gray at Rumble at The Roseland 66.   My win will be the comback kid in Sean Baker.

The 185-Pound Title Fight: At Rumble at the Roseland 65 Jake Smith became the FCFF Middleweight Champion. He added this Championship belt to his collection. He holds two other belts (in the 205-pound division) from the NorthWest Championship production. He took home the FCFF 185-pound belt in August of 2012 after a five-round-war against John Garcia in a split decision victory. For the first time, he will attempt to defend his FCFF Title on March 9th against John Simon, who “is tough as nails,” said Kevin Keeney. Simon recently had a crowd-stunning KO victory over Daniel Phil in round three at Rumble at The Roseland 67. He also won at Rumble at The Rosleand 65 via a round one tapout over Travis Gwin. My winner will be John Garcia with the upset.

The Showdown:  The FCFF Bantamweight Title fight is finally here; Jess Moore has been on-and-off fight cards for all of 2012. This showdown between Moore (the former 145-pound Featherweight Champion) and Journey Newson pits two hungry fighters against one-another for the FCFF Bantamweight 135-pound Title. This belt is currently vacant due to Dylan Atkinson turning pro. My winner will be Journey Newson.

This division has been left vacant since Luis Iniguez relinquished it to turn pro, after his win at Rumble at The Roseland 68 on December 15th 2012. Two top FCFF Welterweights, from two great gyms will collide at Rumble at The Roseland 70: Michael Delgado of Team Quest and Ryan Walker of the Sports Lab. Delgado has had five wins in his last five FCFF fights at Rumble 69, Rumble 68, Rumble 65, Rumble 62 and 60. "One thing about Michael is that he finishes his fights. Every time the cage door closes he's ended it by tapout or TKO. Fighters and fans respect that," said Keeney. Delgado, a submission expert, has had tapouts due to kimora, rear naked choke, and triangle; ending most of his wins in round number one.  I think in this fight my winner will be Michael Delgado.

The FCFF 155-pound Superfights:

The first 155-pound FCFF Superfight is definitely getting some attention as a "Fight to Watch" at Rumble at The Roseland 70. The former 145-pound FCFF Featherweight Champion and 150-pound FCFF Superfight Champion, Jason Gray will battle against John Baker of The Sports Lab on March 9th. These two fighters have both been on winning streaks, with ten collective wins between them, in their last twelve fights. Baker has had five submission victories at Rumble 68, 63, 62, 61 and 60 (chokes and armbars) plus a decision victory at his last fight at Rumble at The Roseland 69 in January. Gray has been victorious via the judges’ decision in his last three FCFF fights at Rumble 68 (earned the FCFF 150-pound Superfight belt), Rumble 67 (earned the FCFF Featherweight belt) and Rumble 62 (undercard fight against Abraham Campos).  My winner for this one will be John Baker!!

The second FCFF 155-pound Superfight will pit former FCFF Featherweight Superfight Champ Ricky Simon of Gladiator MMA against Saul Ruiz of Alive MMA. Simon is going up in weight into the Lightweight division. In his last FCFF fight he beat Damon Jordan at Rumble at The Roseland 65 in August 25th 2012 via a unanimous decision victory. Ruiz last fought in the FCFF at Rumble at The Roseland 66 on September 29th 2012. There he defeated Anthony Simera via choke in the final seconds of round number three. My winner for this fight will be will be Ricky Simon.

Here are my winners for this upcoming fight night...
 Alex Corrales
Hilary VanOrnum
Sean Baker
John Garicia
Journey Newson
Michael Delgado
John Baker
Ricky Simon

This was the fight for the Interim Flyweight Championship. It was the fast Alex Corrales VS Adam King. So this fight was a lot of punches and no ground game. It only toke Adam Young 1:26 to TKO Alex and take the Interim Flyweight Championship. Congratulation to Adam.

The next fight would be for the lightweight Championship between.. William Hill and Ryan Truitt. This fight was a good it was all other the place on teh ground and standing. It would come to the second round when it was all William. So about a minute after that knock down Will would get on Ryan on make him tap due to a choke. That would end the fight and make Will the NEW FCFF lightweight Championship! Congratulations to Will with that win.

With on 34 seconds left Brysen would KO Nathan and would win the Middle superweight! Congratulations to Brysen!
